Every game is fought on a new made-up continent. Red and Blue each start with half the territories and a capital (★). Every territory starts with at least 5 riflemen.
The number on a territory is how many troops its army has. Bigger armies also show a tank (10+ troops) and aircraft (16+), and strong coastal armies a destroyer. These pictures just show the army's size: only the number counts in battle.
Each turn
1. Reinforce: you get new troops: at least 3, plus more for holding lots of territories, your capital and whole regions. Click your territories to place them one at a time (Shift+click places 5), or press Place all reinforcements.
2. Attack: click one of your armies with 2 or more troops, then an enemy territory next to it. The battle is fought with dice (see Battles below). If you win, every troop but one moves in, so you can keep attacking from the new territory. Attack as often as you like. (The player who goes first can't attack on their very first turn.)
Move troops: once you've reinforced, click one of your armies, then another of your territories joined to it through your own land. All but one troop move there. Move as often as you like, in between attacks too.
End turn when you're done. Not happy with your turn? Undo turn takes it all back before you end it.
Battles
Each round the attacker rolls up to 3 dice and the defender up to 2. The dice are paired off, highest against highest: in each pair the lower roll loses a troop, and the defender wins ties.
Rounds repeat until the defender has no troops left (you capture the territory) or your attacking army is down to 1 troop (the attack fails).
Capitals defend with an extra die, so attack them with a big army.
Field shop (vs Computer)
Buy weapons next to the map during the game; they work straight away. Machine-gun nests make your armies harder to beat, snipers do the same on hills (▲), SMG squads hit harder when attacking, and mortar or artillery positions placed on your land shell an enemy in range once a turn.
